Baseball Plays Winthrop in Final Midweek of 2025
FOR STARTERS
- Carolina plays its final midweek game of 2025 on Tuesday night (May 13) as the Gamecocks welcome Winthrop to Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
- Tuesday’s game begins at 6:30 p.m.
- The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
- Tuesday’s game also will be on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield with Cade Crenshaw and Stuart Lake on the call.

SCOUTING WINTHROP
- The Eagles were swept at Radford this past weekend.
- Josh Skowronski and Nate Chronis had three RBI apiece in Sunday’s 12-11 loss to the Highlanders.
- Chazz Grossington leads the Eagles with a .345 batting average while Jaylen Hernandez has 51 RBI.
- On the mound, Harrison Wilson is 4-1 with a 4.73 ERA and 46 strikeouts.
- Mike McGuire is in his first season as head coach at Winthrop after spending five seasons at USC Upstate.
SERIES VS. WINTHROP
- Carolina owns a 28-7 series advantage on Winthrop and has won the previous 13 meetings with the Eagles. Winthrop’s last win against Carolina was 7-5, 11-inning game in 2015.
- Carolina is 19-14 against Winthrop in Columbia.
- The Gamecocks won the first meeting between the two schools this season, taking a 5-3 win in Rock Hill on Feb. 18.
- Jarvis Evans Jr., struck out five in 3.1 innings while Brandon Stone picked up the win, striking out three in 3.2 innings. Kennedy Jones homered and had two hits in the victory.
GAMECOCKS WIN IN THE MIDWEEK
- Carolina defeated Charleston Southern, 5-3, on April 29.
- It improved the Gamecocks’ midweek record to 12-1 on the year.
- The only loss in the midweek was against current No. 4 team in the country North Carolina.
- The Gamecocks are 21-0 against Quad 2, 3 and 4 teams this season.
KAZ, WOITA GETTING HOT IN SEC PLAY
- Henry Kaczmar and Jase Woita are leading the team in average in conference games this season.
- Woita had five hits in the Auburn series, including his fifth home run on May 8, and is now hitting .333 with three home runs and eight RBI in SEC games.
- Kaczmar homered and had four hits in the three games and has a .326 average in the 27 conference games with four home runs and 15 RBI.
FROSH AT THE CORNERS
- Freshmen KJ Scobey and Beau Hollins are manning the corners for Carolina this season.
- Scobey has played in 51 games this season and has six home runs and 22 RBI.
- In the first game on May 9 against Auburn, Scobey had three hits, including a home run over the batter’s eye, and four RBI.
- Hollins has had four hits in a game three times this season, including the May 9 game against Auburn. Hollins homered and drove in a pair in that contest.
- The duo is joined by fellow freshman Gavin Braland, who had four hits and two RBI in the Kentucky series.
TIPPETT’S BLAST BEATS KENTUCKY
- Junior Will Tippett’s two-run home run in the eighth inning helped Carolina to a 5-4 win over Kentucky on April 26.
- It was Tippett’s first home run of the season and first since his home run in the Raleigh Regional vs. N.C. State.
- Ashton Crowther earned the win in relief, striking out four in 2.2 hitless innings.
GAMECOCKS WALK OFF UNF
- KJ Scobey’s ground-rule double scored Jordan Carrion in the bottom of the 10th in a 3-2 win over North Florida.
- It was Carolina’s first walk-off win since the opening game of the 2024 Raleigh Regional when Will Tippett’s sacrifice fly scored Dylan Brewer in an 8-7, 10-inning win over James Madison.
- The win was Carolina’s first in extra innings this season.

- The Gamecocks close out the regular season this weekend (May 15-17) against LSU at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
- Thursday and Friday’s games will start at 7 p.m. with Saturday’s game at 3 p.m.
