South Carolina Concludes Opening Day of SEC Outdoor Championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 15, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field opened the SEC Outdoor Championship on Thursday afternoon, competing in just eight events on the opening day in Lexington, Ky.

JaMeesia Ford and Cynteria James highlighted the women’s competition in the 200-meter sprint. The duo competed in heat five and finished first and second, respectively. Ford turned in a new season best 200m time of 22.33 (0.7) to remain atop the East Regional leaderboard and finish first overall in the preliminary round. James clocked a new personal best time of 22.82 (0.7) to place seventh overall on the leaderboard. Additionally, James new personal best moved her into seventh place all-time in program history for the outdoor 200m sprint. The duo will run the 200m finals on Saturday at 8:25 p.m.

The men competed in five events on the opening day, including a trio of preliminary events. Anthony Greenhow fell just short of the 200m finals but was able to run a new wind-legal personal best time of 20.58 (0.5), jumping into the Top 25 in the East Region. Ellis Neighbors threw the javelin in his first ever SEC Championship and finished 10th overall, just one spot shy of the finals, throwing 63.61m (208-8).

The Gamecocks return to action tomorrow with a full slate of events, including eight preliminary races. The first event for the Gamecocks will be the women’s long jump at 3:30 p.m., with the first track event coming in the women’s 100-meter hurdle at 5 p.m. Friday’s festivities will close with the women’s steeplechase at 8 p.m. and the men’s steeplechase at 8:20 p.m.
